The one feature that ON1 still lacks that LR has is fuji film simulations. I bought Iridient X-Transformer for $30 and use it when I need the best raw conversion, but the ON1 raw converter is very close. However, to be fair when I did my raw processor comparisons Iridient was the best.

I am not sure if LR is now better with Fuji raw files or not. One area that stood out was Aurora HDR was very poor when it came to shadow recovery while ON1 did very well.Īnother area that ON1 Raw did better than LR was raw image processing. It also had a lot more features than Aurora. I also downloaded Aurora HDR 2018 and ON1 Raw was able to do what Aurora HDR did but faster. When it came to resizing photos there was nothing that performed as well as ON1 Resize. I downloaded various software trials and did comparisons. When I started out editing LR moved to a subscription model and I was trying to avoid paying a monthly fee.

However, once you get used to it and not switch so much between modules you can get stuff done very quickly. Although to be honest there are parts of the ON1 user interface that have not been intuitive and took some time for me to figure out. If you have been using LR for a long time now, then I can see how you would find it more natural to use since you have a lot of time invested in the LR way. I like the product and it is evolving to get better and better. I certainly recommend people that are curious, to download a trial version of ON1 and make their own decisions. ON1 already supports the X-H1, which my LR 6.x perpetual will seemingly never do, so I am happy with that. And if you don't want these, then just don't go there.

I am grateful that the ON1 team is prolific in helping their users get the benefit from the program. LR has also a barrage of excellent tutorials, from people like Julieanne Kost and many others. I use gmail, and set a filter to delete them on arrival, but as the Trash isn't emptied for 30 days, I still have the option to read them if I am interested. The large number of promo emails with both paid and free tutorials can be opted out of or ignored. If a user doesn't want to make use of any features, then nobody is forcing them, so just ignore that! Pretty simple. I find the term "gimmicks" to be rather judgemental and negative. I have been using LR since before Adobe bought, and I refuse to buy into subscription license so I bought ON1 and a few others too (such as Luminar) to find alternatives to LR. All viewpoints are valid, but show the members' approaches.
